OCOEE HOMES CONT... The community's small-town flavor and friendly atmosphere can be seen in residents who attend local craft fairs, the annual Founders Day celebration and youth sports and social events.
While the city's early settlers were attracted because of the beautiful setting and suitability for industry, today's residents and business owners can still enjoy the beautiful lakefront scenery to which native Floridians have become accustomed.
The city is a shining example of the notion that growth and history can be a successfully blended. The real estate market is comprised mainly of single-family homes with a diverse range of styles. A select few condominiums and townhouses can be found starting around $120,000 and above. Single-family Ocoee homes begin at $150,000 and reach up to $1 million and more for lakefront estates with water access. Land is also available for custom building.
Current predictions show that growth will continue. It is already the second-largest city in the county in terms of real estate area. Much of the undeveloped land is zoned commercial and industrial, with the perfect location available for nearly every business need. Industry is already quite diverse and includes citrus, manufacturing, retail, medical, professional services, and hotel/resort accommodations.
New shopping centers such as the West Oaks Mall - which features more than a million square feet of retail space - are adding to economy and creating jobs.
The Orange County public school system is the 14th largest district out of more than 16,000 in the nation and is the fourth largest in Florida. To better serve principals and students, the district has created five regional learning communities.
Local folklore has it that Ocoee's pioneers got the name “Ocoee” from an Indian word meaning “no cold.” But others in the community believe a more apt translation as the “Center of Good Living.”
